We appreciate that there are some countries in which people are required to undergo some tests prior to marriage; e.g. Iran, and some African countries. This is a package of tests specially put together to make this easy to do. It consists of:
2 Blood Tests:
and a Urine Drug Test for:
NB. This is a test for one person.
You are required to bring a valid photo ID with you at the of the test such as a passport or driving license.
There is no need for an appointment to do the pre-marriage test. After paying for the test online, you will receive a confirmation message with a map and directions attached. You can then go to Patient Reception at The Doctors Laboratory to give the sample. The laboratory is open 7am – 7pm weekdays and 7am-1pm on Saturdays.*
Why do this test? Sickle cell anaemia and beta thalassaemia are inheritable conditions. There is no problem to the person if they are sickle cell or beta thalassaemia carriers and have only one gene for these. However, if a couple who are both carriers have children, then there is a 1 in 4 chance that their children will have sickle cell disease or beta thalassaemia. That will mean life-long medical care and suffering for the affected children. For this reason, many countries ask their citizens to screen for sickle cell anaemia before they get married in order to avoid having affected children. Please note that having alpha thalassaemia does not give any major medical problems.
Time Taken: 2 working days **
Results of your pre-marriage test will be e-mailed to you. Please let us know if you need a paper copy to be posted to you.
* Please avoid drinking excessive fluids on the day of the test - no more than one glass (250ml) per hour. Otherwise the drug test may not be valid and have to be repeated at an extra cost to the client.
** Indicative timings only. Actual result may be earlier or slightly later.
