What This Test Includes

Urine Test

Urine testing also screens for gonorrhoea, a bacterial STI that can affect the genital tract and urinary system and may require treatment if detected.

When Should I Test?

Chlamydia and gonorrhoea have incubation periods before they can be reliably detected. Testing too early may increase the chance of a false negative result.

  • Recommended timing: testing is generally most reliable from around 7–14 days after possible exposure
  • Earlier testing: if testing is performed too early, repeat testing may sometimes be advised
  • Symptoms: if you have symptoms, testing should not be delayed

Please note: If you develop symptoms such as discharge, pain when passing urine, genital sores or pelvic pain, medical advice is recommended.

Preparation Required

  • Avoid urinating for at least 2 hours before your urine sample
  • Provide first-catch urine where possible
  • Collect the first 10-20ml of urine for best accuracy
