When Should I Test?
Different blood-borne infections have different testing window periods. Testing too early may mean that some infections are not yet detectable.
- HIV 1 & 2 / p24 antigen: most accurate from approximately 45 days after possible exposure
- Hepatitis B surface antigen: often detectable from around 4-8 weeks after possible exposure
- Hepatitis C antibodies: often detectable from around 6-10 weeks after possible exposure
- Syphilis IgG/IgM: commonly reliable from around 3-6 weeks after possible exposure
For the full panel, testing around 10 weeks after the last possible exposure may provide more complete reassurance. If testing is performed earlier, repeat testing may sometimes be advised.
Please note: If you currently have symptoms or are concerned about recent exposure, testing should not be delayed. Medical advice is recommended if you are unsure when to test.
